Mazars Insight: from Basel II to Basel III
To react to the banking and financial crisis, the Basel Committee decided to launch a new reform, described as Basel III, which was expressed in December 2009 by the publication of a Consultative Paper.

The aim of this study is to present the new measures intended to fall within the new statutory framework called “Basel III”, documentation published in December 2009 by the Basel Committee and proposals made since. Mazars also relied on a sample of answers from financial establishments to the Consultative Paper to present the main comments from the international banking sector.
The Mazars study concentrates on the main new aspects provided by the reform on the following themes:
- reinforcement of capital requirements,
- measures for fighting against procyclicity and systemic risk,
- measures for a better monitoring of the liquidity risk.
